K-12 Programming

CanopyBloomington is dedicated to partnering with teachers to help students discover and appreciate native trees. Through our educational programs, students deepen their understanding of their local environment while meeting curriculum standards. Our programs are a great way to combine curiosity and exploration to help students learn as much as possible about the trees around them.

Elementary School

K-8 activity guide “Explore your Environment”

This book offers grade‑level activities aligned with national standards in multiple subjects, covering topics like forests, wildlife, and climate change, plus a self‑paced course to help teachers lead and plan.

Sensational Trees (grades K-2 Activities)

This book features grade‑level activities aligned with national standards in core subjects, covering topics like forests, wildlife, and climate change, plus a two‑hour self‑paced course to help teachers lead and plan.

Environmental Education Activity Guide (grades pre K-8)

Engage students indoors and outdoors using the environment, with topics like forests, wildlife, air, water, energy, climate change, and more

Energy in Ecosystems (grades 3-5)

Students explore how organisms depend on each other to survive, focusing on forests to understand ecosystem interactions and deepen their appreciation and compassion for nature.

*Forests of the World (pre K- 12)

Students discover how they’re connected to forests around the world and learn about the challenges these forests face. The lessons use the kid‑friendly framework of the Montreal Process to introduce ideas about taking care of forests in a way that’s fun and easy to understand

Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood

A guide that helps teachers bring nature into the classroom and safely explore outdoors, with over 130 activities and ideas for creating six engaging learning centers

Connecting for Health and Planet (grades 3-5 activities)

Activities include exploring the benefits of being outdoors, reflecting on trees through poetry and gratitude walks, and leading projects to enhance local green spaces.

Trillions of Trees (grades 3-5 activities)

Activities include identifying trees by their leaves and bark, investigating tree health, and planning and planting new trees.

Designed to help students explore and collect tree data to develop understandings about how trees grow and their role in ecosystems. Also to show how trees and humans interact

Treemendous Science (Grades K-2)

Inspires young students to make a difference for the environment at school, at home, and in their community. The e-book features five fun, hands-on investigations designed to be student-led and engaging for elementary learners

Middle School and High School

Explore your Environment (K-8 activity guide)

This resource offers engaging, grade‑appropriate activities aligned with national standards, covering topics like forests, wildlife, and climate change. It also includes a self‑paced course to help you confidently plan and lead dynamic lessons for your middle school students.

Forests of the World (pre K- 12)

Students explore their connection to global forests and the challenges they face through modules based on the Montreal Process framework for sustainable forest management.

GreenSchools Online Course (K-12)

Inspires students to improve the environment at their school, home, and community. E-book includes five hands on, student driven investigations.

Explore the environment both inside and outside the classroom! Learn about cool topics like forests, animals, clean air and water, renewable energy, climate change, and more, all while discovering how these things connect to your everyday life.

Carbon & Climate (grades 6-8)

Activities and resources to help educators introduce students to complex issues related to climate change. Engages students' critical thinking skills.

Designed for educators to teach high school students about the impacts on forest ecosystems, the role in forests sequestering carbon, and strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to changing climatic conditions
